Attention Commissary Shoppers

There is a great deal going on at most military commissaries. Minute Maid fruit punch and lemonade is about $1.50 per container, with orange juice running about $2. Combine that with the $1.50 coupon off Minute Maid you can find here. That makes it $.50 for orange juice or FREE for all others.

These blogs are updated regularly and will tell you where and how to find great deals on groceries. If you have time, please check them out!

Let's Try Again

Well, it has been a very long time since I updated this blog. There have been quite a few changes to our financial situation.
First, my husband and I completed our goal of becoming debt free. Thanks to some hard work and a great tax refund (completely unexpected) we finished paying off his truck and then some back in February. So I am happy to say WE'RE DEBT FREE!!!!!!!! Man that was nice to type.

Though this was a great financial accomplishment, we are still looking at some hard times ahead. My husband decided he wanted to pursue his college degree and will be joining the Green to Gold program the Army provides. During this time the Army will pay for my husband's college and give us a little extra on the side to cover our rent. Since I only work from home and he will be attending college full time, this will leave us with very little cash on hand and we are going to need to be eating on a little as possible. So, I decided it was time to start working on this blog again.

Our goal once we move to College Station, TX is going to be to eat on $300 a month. We will luckily have access to several more stores than we do here, which should provide better deals than we have had access to. I am really looking forward to start posting great deals, meal ideas and frugal living tips.

3 More Walgreens Trips

Well my Walgreen's Trips didn't turn out exactly as I hoped. The milk they had was expiring too soon to get a lot of it so I did my best to think on my feet. Here is what we ended up coming out with.
1 can Goodstart
2 cans Walgreen's brand Formula
6 bags shredded cheese
2 dozen eggs
2- 2 liters of soda (not necessary but it will be nice)
1- 6 pack of toilet paper (had $1 0ff coupon plus on sale)
1- 50 pk. bottle liners (needed anyway)
1 bottle shampoo
1- 1/2 gallon milk (we ran out today so we needed something until our real shopping trip)

Total: $70.07 plus $21.72 from the last shopping trip. Which leaves only $58.21 to get the rest of our food with. YIKES!!!! Hopefully I will be able to come up with some great deals to feed us for two weeks.

Mashed Potato Salad

My husband has a work related dinner tonight so it is just me. I REALLY didn't want to cook so I decided to make dinner with what leftovers I had. The result....Mashed Potato Salad.....or at least that is what I named it. Definitely not very healthy but it sure was good. Here is the....uh.... "recipe" ;).

Mashed Potato Salad

3 cups leftover Instant Mashed Potatoes
1 can Green Beans
3 oz. thinly cut Ham (I used leftover lunch meat)
Grated Cheese (had a little bit leftover that needed to be used)

Mix everything together and microwave on high until hot. Add salt and Pepper to taste.

First Walgreens Trip

I just got back from my first Walgreen trip. I had a $5 off 24oz. Good Start formula that printed out the last time I bought formula there and used the $5 off a $25 purchase with it. In order to reach the $25 requirement I bought:
25.7oz can of Good Start Formula - $26.49 - $5 off coupon.
12 oz. can of Good Start formula that was on clearance for $2.99!!!!
Suave conditioner - $1 (we needed conditioner anyway)
The total with tax came to $22.72!!!! That is a $20 savings!!!!

After I got home I realized I had a $2 coupon that I could have used on the small can of formula and it would have only been $.99 GRRR!!! Oh well, maybe I can use it when I go back to do a few more transactions tomorrow.
